Location: Glasgow, United Kingdom - Hybrid role (3 days WFH)
Reporting To: Head of Operations & Head of Financial Crime (both Australia based), with a local dotted line in Glasgow
Introduction to Shaype
Shaype is a global fintech headquartered in Sydney and with offices in London, Belfast, Glasgow and Toronto. Over the past 8 years, Shaype has been building next-gen cloud solutions to allow for more flexibility, speed and control of payments to be put in the hands of our clients and customers. We serve both the consumer and business markets with innovative solutions delivered by the Shaype embedded finance platform.
Our mission is to enable the world's most innovative financial and non-financial companies helping them remove complexity and empower their ability to deploy new business models, products and serve new markets in record time.
- The Shaype platform is a financial services enablement platform. Shaype offers brands the ability to create transactional banking experiences providing access to spending cards, accounts/digital wallets and domestic payment rails on a Software-as-a-service basis.
- At Shaype, we believe in the seamless integration of embedded financial services into all financial and non-financial companies. Built from the 'cloud-down' - we own our ecosystem with control to optimise and allow for flexible microservice integrations.
- Shaype's target companies range from traditional financial institutions through to fintechs and digital innovators and an increasing emphasis on well-known consumer brands that are essential to Shaype's mission of delivering extraordinary payment experiences.
What we need
- As Shaype continues to scale, our operational model must scale with it. We need operations that remain efficient, controlled, and resilient as transaction volumes, clients, and product capabilities grow.
- To support this, we are looking for a Payments and Operations Specialist to keep Shaype's UK settlement, reconciliation and payments cycle running each day, picking up financial crime work alongside it.
- You will own the UK daily cycle end to end: settlement, reconciliation, payments and second-line client support, delivered to daily cut-offs.
- Work independently. For large parts of the day you are the only Operations presence in Glasgow, so we need someone who can judge what to solve and what to escalate rather than wait for Sydney.
- Take on financial crime work under our Australian AML/CTF obligations. No fincrime background needed, we will train you.
- Spend roughly half your time building rather than running: redesigning, simplifying and documenting processes as volumes grow, and helping stand up operations for Canada.
- Be confident with operational data and systems: strong Excel, dashboards, a reconciliation platform, a ticketing system, and clear tickets for our Tech team.
- This role will also focus on continuous improvements to the processes, simplifying operational workflows, embedding strong controls, and enabling greater automation and operational insight across our operational team and organisation.
This role is Glasgow based and offers flexible working arrangements - up to 3 days per week working from home.
About the role
You'll keep Shaype's UK settlement, reconciliation and payments cycle running each day, picking up financial crime work alongside it. You'll sit with our Global CTO and senior Tech team in Glasgow, which gives you visibility most operations roles at this level don't get, and lets you close feedback loops that currently take a full day to cross time zones.
The rest of your time goes into building: redesigning processes as volumes grow, supporting testing and releases, and laying the operational foundations for our expansion into Canada. This is a hands-on, mid to senior role. Not the right fit if you want a finished operation handed to you. Right fit if you want to build one and own it.
Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Settlement and reconciliation
- Run daily reconciliations: match statements and scheme files, investigate and resolve breaks.
- Verify card scheme settlement files land as expected, chasing the processor when they don't.
- Manage the multi-currency settlement cycle, checking funding and booking transfers under two-person approval.
- Produce daily, weekly and monthly reporting, keeping trackers audit ready.
Payments and second-line client support
- Second line for clients' own support teams on issues they can't resolve, including disputed transactions across card and Australian domestic rails.
- Manage payment disputes end to end and produce the weekly dispute report.
- Handle recalls, returns and traces with clearing partners, knowing where our responsibility ends and the client's begins.
Financial crime operations
- Work the alert queue and onboarding cases: identity checks, screening, PEP and sanctions.
- Run daily due diligence reviews, prepare suspicious matter reports and regulatory lodgements.
Project and improvement work
- Redesign processes for today's volume: map, simplify, control, document.
- Support UAT and give operational sign-off on platform and tooling changes.
- Work through incidents, file re-runs and continuity exercises alongside Tech.
- Cover other parts of the operation through leave and absence, and manage suppliers and clearing partners.
- Take on ad hoc projects: new clients, new payment types, platform migrations. Over time, become the person both the UK and Australian teams come to for how a process actually works.
What experience you will have
Essential
- Typically expect 5+ years hands-on ownership of a daily reconciliation or settlement cycle in a regulated payments environment. We care what you can demonstrate, not the number.
- A self-starter who works well unsupervised and is comfortable with ambiguity, in a fast-growing environment where not everything is written down yet and a day can move between an alert queue, a settlement break and a project workshop.
- Strong Excel and genuine comfort with operational data, and able to explain a technical outcome clearly to a non-technical audience.
Desirable
- Lean Six Sigma, Green Belt or above.
- Visa scheme settlement, multi-currency, FX, nostro accounts or treasury float experience.
- Chargeback or dispute handling under scheme rules.
- AML/CTF experience anywhere; Australian rails like NPP, BPAY or Direct Entry are a real advantage.
- Banking-as-a-Service, embedded finance or BPO or SaaS background.
Working Arrangements
- Must have full UK working rights.
- Sydney hands over at the start of your day and you hand back at the end of it. Some tasks are pinned to Australian clock times and stay with Sydney, so you're not being asked to work Australian hours, though some flexibility should be expected.
- As we grow into Canada, this role may take on a part in supporting it, we'll shape that together as we get there.
Attributes for success at Shaype
Customer-Centric Mindset
Client and customer experience shapes how you work. You hold the boundary between what's ours and what's the client's, and you handle disputes and support issues with the same care whether the amount is large or small.
Ownership and Follow-Through
You take a process from start to finish, chase down what doesn't balance, and fix root causes rather than working around them.
Operational Excellence and Execution Focus
Daily cut-offs matter here, and you understand why. You bring discipline to reconciliation, settlement and reporting, and look for ways to make each process more scalable as volumes grow.
Risk Management and Regulatory Awareness
You work comfortably under AML/CTF obligations and know when to solve a problem yourself and when to escalate immediately. Control and accuracy matter as much as speed.
Technology and Data Fluency
You're comfortable with data and systems, and can write a clear ticket for the Tech team. If you've automated something before, even in a spreadsheet, that curiosity matters to us.
